Eugène PRINTZ (1879–1948) - Lot 3
Eugène PRINTZ (1879–1948) Set of two walnut armchairs, circa 1935, with slightly sloping backs, seat and side cushions upholstered in coral-colored wool fabric, resting on two ornate front legs that join two rear legs to form fluted, semicircular armrests. H.: 95 cm. - W.: 59 cm. - D.: 75 cm. (Signs of wear, scuffing, non-original upholstery) Note: A variant of our rosewood armchair, presented at the 1931 Colonial Exhibition at the Porte Dorée and part of Marshal Lyautey’s reception room, bears a resemblance to our example. Our pair of armchairs is similar to those created by Printz for Madame Jeanne Lanvin’s office and fitting room in 1932. A variant of our black-lacquered armchair, presented at the 1933 SAD, is similar to our example. Bibliography: - Guy Bujon & Jean Jacques Dutko, *E. Printz*, Éditions du Regard, 1986; armchair of similar design reproduced on pp. 23, 148, 149, and 161. - Auction Catalog: Furniture and Works of Art, Galerie Printz, published by Ducros et Colas, 1934; the armchair in question is reproduced on p. 20 under lot number 69.
