JBINE FRONT CROWN in vermeil, articulated with 7 rectangular - Lot 20
JBINE FRONT CROWN in vermeil, articulated with 7 rectangular links featuring oriental scrollwork surmounted by a crescent, holding small pendants in the pattern. Set with rose-cut diamonds. Later yellow satin ribbon. Probably Algeria, 20th century. Crab hallmarks. Design size: 31.5 x 7 cm - Gross weight: 137.77 g (missing, slight twist on one element) A major piece of Oriental bridal jewelry, the Jbine is deeply rooted in Maghreb culture. Historically, this front jewelry is the fruit of a cultural mix spanning several centuries: between Hispano-Moorish heritage after the fall of Al-Andalus and Ottoman influence. In some regions (notably Tunisia and Algeria), this style was influenced by the finery of the Ottoman court, where opulence and floral motifs were king.
