Punu Lumbo mask, Gabon Soft wood, pigments, accidents Punu mask with a high bun in the shape of a shell and lateral wings, streaked with fine locks. The face, inscribed in a heart, is adorned with a slit eye, on either side of a nose with delicate nostrils. The mouth, like the keloids on the forehead and cheeks, is enhanced with red pigments, in the image of the most ancient masks colored with padouk red. Crossing the face, a tattoo tinted like the headdress, of black. This type of mask is used for the mukuyi rite. The most recent ones are displayed during village festivities, their ancient function being to accompany funeral rites, during which they incarnated the spirits of the ancestors. H. 33 cm
