Olmeta Mathias - Lot 36

Olmeta Mathias Matthias Olmeta was born in Marseille in 1968. He went to the United States and took courses in visual arts at the University of Santa Monica from which he graduated in 1991. He travels to Mexico, Havana and Athens. He photographs people on the margins and works on his fears. He uses the ambrotype (single negative image, associated with a black background to appear in positive) to construct images whose serenity is similar to ancient statuary. Dignified, they seem to resurface out of time. Matthias Olmeta has exhibited all over the world, notably at the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Agnès B Collection in Paris, London, Atlanta and Vancouver.
